Abstract

Vietnamese medieval literature and folklore are closely related. Folklore’s elements have become the part of materials in Vietnamese medieval literary works. On the cultural perspective and via these typical works, the article synthesizes, analyses and discusses some traditional Tet customs such as enjoying flowers, shopping for Tet, setting up the Neu tree, setting off firecracker, welcoming New Year’s Eve, greeting the New Year’s first day, exchanging New Year’s wishes, and enjoying the spring festivals. Besides the colorful picture of the Tet customs, these works also contained inner feelings of writers about the change and harassment of historical periods and had a wish for better life.
