Abstract
Vietnamese language education for ethnic minority students, including Khmer students, is one of the issues considered particularly important by The Party and The Government. However, for some reasons, the results of teaching Vietnamese to Khmer students are not very good. Many students make mistakes in using Vietnamese, especially in creating texts. Therefore, the article focuses on clarifying mistakes made by Khmer students in high schools in An Giang Province on investigating 183 tests. The result shows that the Khmer students made many mistakes falling into 4 categories: punctuation, structural, logic, and text style. Under the current situation, the paper presents three principles for correcting sentences for Khmer ethnic students: correcting sentence mistakes in order to overcome the main causes of bilingual students; to detect errors, identifying causes and correction techniques; paying close attention to placing sentences into paragraphs, essay and purpose of the writer. This article is limited in both breadth and depth, so hopefully we will further explore the topic to improve the effectiveness of teaching Vietnamese to Khmer students.
