Viewpoints on perceiving “learners as partners” to develop students’ competencies in teaching and learning

Abstract

Vietnam’s educational and training cause aims to improve the people’s intellectual level, train human resources, and foster talents. The learner-centered viewpoint is increasingly evident in the ongoing fundamental and comprehensive renovation of Vietnamese education. However, there is a need for a more correct understanding of the learner’s central position, viewing the learner as a partner for competency-based teaching, thereby enhancing the lecturer’s role and responsibility while promoting students’ activeness, autonomy, dynamism, and creativity in learning.
