Connection between the works of Tran Tung, Tran Quang Trieu, Tran Nhan Tong and the leisure trend in Vietnamese medieval literature

Abstract

Leisure is both a state of mind and a lifestyle choice of people, regardless of cultural space or time. Emotions and the need to unwind were formed early on, and as early as the tenth century, they emerged as a significant trend in medieval literature. Nearly ten centuries later, this trend continued with numerous author phenomena and distinctive works. From the perspective of literary typology, if scholars have separated into groups like Zen master writers; writers who are kings, generals, or nobles; or Confucian writers (who are practicing, reclusive, or amateur Confucianists), then there are noticeable moments when all of these types of writers come together. Some people always turn to leisure as a way to pass the time when they're depressed, spending time in the company of mountains, clouds, and the sky to strengthen their inner strength and perspective before being enslaved to this world. Through that method, it becomes evident how indispensable the group of Zen master writers is, with Tran Tung, Tran Quang Trieu, and Tran Nhan Tong being the most representative. The compositions of Tran Tung, Tran Quang Trieu, and Tran Nhan Tong have numerous intriguing points of convergence, and the Yen Tu landscape complex is the fundamental reference attached to the area of solitude and leisure. This is the primary question we addressed in this article.
