Abstract

In the wars against the Northern invaders from the 10th to the 13th century, with the rugged terrain, the Bach Dang River became an effective defense line, contributing to a glorious victory for the Ngo, Early Le, and Tran dynasties. With these illustrious feats, Bach Dang River has become a symbol of patriotism, national courage, and an inspiration for medieval Vietnamese poetry from the 10th to the 15th century. The article demonstrates that different poets and historical periods have different interpretations of the Bach Dang river symbol through the use of historical method, analysis, comparison, and contrast. From there, it becomes evident that the artist's style is always greatly influenced by the ideology and the era of the work.
