Conditions and procedures for building smart tourism destinations in Vietnam

Abstract

Implementing the Project “Application of technology of Industry 4.0’s technology to develop smart tourism, promoting tourism to become a key economic sector” in Vietnam of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, many provinces/cities across the country are implementing the construction of smart tourism destinations, initially bringing certain results. There have been tourism destinations in Vietnam that have met some of the criteria for a smart tourism destination, but there has been no destination that has met all the criteria for a smart tourism destination. One of the main causes of this situation is that leaders of state management agencies and governments at all levels, managers of tourism destinations have not determined the conditions and processes for building smart tourism destinations in Vietnam, therefore have not come up with feasible and effective implementation solutions. By using a combination of theoretical and practical research methods (questionnaire survey, practical observation, interview, direct reports, product research...). For subjects of the research, the authors have evaluated the current situation of building smart tourism destinations in Vietnam, thereby proposing conditions and processes for successfully building a smart tourism destinations in Vietnam today.
