Abstract

Vietnam has had a fairly successful process of innovation and economic development, but it is still an agricultural country. In 2018, with nearly 100 million people, agricultural land was only 11.5 million hectares with 9-10 million farming households. Thus, the average cultivated land is less than 1 ha/ 1 household; The actual land divided among farmers is only 0.46 ha/ 1 household and the number of land plots is 2.8 plots/ 1 household; Agriculture is indeed fragmented, but is largely abandoned. This study analyzes the current state of abandoned agricultural land, contributing to clarifying the causes of that situation and initially proposing solutions to solve it.
