Sustainable development: Fundamental basis, characteristics and goals

Abstract

“Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of
the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs” (Brundtland, 1987); has become an inevitable trend, even for Vietnam; help
mitigate and overcome the severe environmental consequences caused by overuse,
waste and inefficient use of natural resources in economic development, inequality,
poverty and unfair distribution on the basis of survival between internal and external
generations. This article reviews the necessity of sustainable development considering
all three areas, namely economic, social and cultural, and ecological environment,
the basic characteristics and goals of global sustainable development.
