Presuppositions in some English advertisements

Abstract

This article is mainly intended to give an overview of the theoretical background knowledge of presuppositions and analyze the practical use of presuppositions in a small number of english advertisements. The results revealed that presuppositions are frequently exploited in advertisements in order to build close relationship with consumers and persuade them to buy the product.
