Assessment of water quality in Lung Ngoc Hoang nature reserve, Hau Giang province

Abstract
The research on assessing surface water quality in Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve has revealed a pressing issue. The surface water quality in the central canal and the administrative service subdivision is showing signs of relatively high pollution, with many indicators exceeding the allowable limits of QCVN 08:2023/BTNMT Table 2, level A. This is particularly true for parameters such as TSS, BOD, COD, and Fe2+. Our CA analysis selected 4 locations representing different discharge sources to arrange monitoring points, while our PCA analysis identified 5 factors explaining the fluctuations in water quality. We propose that these important indicators, identified as potentially polluting, be selected for monitoring. The study underscores the urgent need to address the pollution, which is primarily caused by domestic waste from people living in the Reserve and from agricultural production activities (cultivation and livestock).
