Solutions to mitigate the salinization of groundwater extraction boreholes in the Nam Bo plain

Abstract
The salinization of groundwater extraction boreholes within the Quaternary - Neogene sedimentary aquifers of the Nam Bo plain is increasingly impacted by climate change, rising sea levels, and the growing demand for groundwater to support social security and economic development. Many boreholes and dug wells are now contaminated with salinity, rendering them unsuitable for continued use and exacerbating water scarcity. Through a thorough analysis of the causes of salinity contamination, we have established criteria for influencing mitigation strategies. By applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and integrating GIS-based map overlays, we have identified effective solutions to reduce salinity contamination in groundwater extraction boreholes across 42 regional water-scarce areas.
