10. Multi - Criteria Analysis based on GIS and open data resources on the internet to establish the flood risk area of Quang Binh province

Abstract

Flood risk assessment for disaster prevention measures and development planning is essential, especially in flood - prone areas. To assess flood risk, GIS technology and Multi - Criteria Analysis (MCA) method were applied to calculate flood risk index. In the study, 9 criteria affecting the possibility of inundation were selected including: Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), Digital Elevation model (DEM), slope, rainfall, surface cover, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), distance to river, density of drainage, soil type. And then proceed to superimpose the single - use maps to calculate the Flood Hazard Index (FHI) and through the results of the calculation divided the study area is divided into 5 levels of very high, high, medium, low and very low flood risk, covering approximately 5.8 %, 17.6 %, 39.3 %, 27.3 % and 10 % of area.
