Environmental Protection Solutions for Pig production in Pig Farms in Gia Lam District, Ha Noi

Abstract

      A study on pig production at 22 pig farms in Gia Lam district was conducted to assess overall environmental quality of pig-farming, to identify main characteristics and pollution sources of pig production process and to propose alternative solutions for environmental protection. The results showed that pig-farms are taking some measures for waste treatment. However, waste from pig-farming was treated incompletely and discharged directly to environment. Surface-water around pig-farms was polluted by TSS, COD, NH₄⁺ and PO₄^3-, while groundwater was contaminated by NH₄⁺. The study has identified pollution sources, causes of pollution and proposed some solutions to protect the environment for pig-farming in Gia Lam district.
