Japan’s AI strategy and implications for Vietnam in the digital transformation era

Abstract

In the digital transformation era, AI has emerged as a key technology with a shaping influence
on economic and social development as well as ensuring national security. Japan is implementing a
comprehensive national AI strategy, while Vietnam has also identified science, technology, and digital
transformation as core drivers of policy direction . This study analyzes Japan’s AI strategy across
economic, social, and national security dimensions, highlighting achieved outcomes and challenges in
implementation, then draws important policy implications for Vietnam.
