In order to maintain exploitation and colonial rule, the Netherlands implemented an
educational policy in the direction of "divide and rule", adapting to different ethnic groups living in
Indonesia. The Dutch educational policy in Indonesia not only had an impact on the awareness and mindset
of the indigenous people but also directly affected important political changes in the national liberation
movement that took place in Indonesia in the early 20th century. The initial achievements of education
during this period laid the foundation for the modern educational orientation of Indonesia today. By using
historical methods, logical methods combined with analytical and comparative methods, the article delves
into the 3 main aspects: (1) The establishment process of the Dutch educational model (system) in
Indonesia; (2) Dutch educational reforms in Indonesia; (3) Positive consequences of the Dutch educational
policy on Indonesia.
