B2C E-commerce in Japan: Current Situation and Development Policies

Business-to-Consumer (B2C) e-commerce refers to a form of commercial transaction
in which businesses sell products or services directly to end consumers through electronic means,
primarily via the Internet. This type of commerce has grown significantly over the past decade
and is gradually replacing traditional forms of trade. Japan is one of the countries where B2C e
commerce has developed considerably, thanks to the Japanese government’s implementation of
numerous effective policies to promote its growth. This article analyzes and evaluates the current
state of B2C e-commerce development in Japan over the past decade, as well as several key
policies implemented by the Japanese government to foster the growth of this form of commerce.
