Sustainable tourism development in Quảng Trị’s border region in the new context: A case study of the former Hướng Hóa district

Abstract
This article examines the potential and current status of tourism development Quang Tri’s border region. Focusing on the former Huong Hoa district - an important border locality along the East–West Economic Corridor - as a case study, the paper highlights the unique advantages of the Huong Hoa border area for tourism development; assesses the district’s tourism progress in recent years; and identifies inherent bottlenecks hindering the sustainable growth of the local tourism sector. Based on these findings, the study proposes a set of recommendations to foster sustainable tourism development in the Huong Hoa border area specifically, and the newly established Quang Tri province more broadly, in the coming period.
