Abstract

This study employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to identify the key determinants of local residents’ participation in community-based tourism in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. Data were collected from 250 local residents using a structured questionnaire and a convenience sampling. The findings reveal five factors that significantly affect participation, ranked in order of priority: (1) Tourism-related mechanisms and policies of the government/state management authorities, (2) Interest in community-based tourism activities, (3) Personal capacity, (4) Family characteristics, and (5) Perceived benefits of participation. Based on these results, policy implications and recommendations are proposed to enhance community engagement in tourism activities, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of local tourism.
