Abstract

During the period from 1602 to 1607, Lord Nguyễn Hoàng made four important decisions regarding the land of Duy Xuyên, including establishing the administrative center of Quảng Nam in Hy Giang district, renaming Hy Giang district to Duy Xuyên district, and building two Buddhist temples, Long Hưng and Bửu Châu. These decisions demonstrate that Nguyễn Hoàng was the pioneer in establishing the administrative name "Duy Xuyên district" and promoting Buddhism in this region, as well as assigning Duy Xuyên an important role as the administrative center of Quảng Nam. All of these were part of his strategic vision – a vision that greatly contributed to the expansion towards the South.
