The process of developing, restoring, and promoting the art of Bai Choi in Khanh Hoa provine in the contemporary society

Abstract

The paper discovers the development and adaptability of Bài Chòi art. The study employs ethnographic fieldwork (participant observation and in-depth interviews) to analyze the development process, characteristics, restoration, and promotion of Bài Chòi art in Khánh Hòa province. The findings are as follows: i) the art of Bài Chòi in Khánh Hòa has similarities and differences with other localities in the South Central Coast; ii) the participation and role of managers and artisans shape the process of restoring and developing the art of Bài Chòi towards modernity and integration; iii) some limitations and policy implications related to training performing artists, transmitting, and identifying core values. The article contributes to the debate on the modernity and adaptability of the art of Bài Chòi in contemporary society
