Abstract
This research uses the theoretical framework by Kaplinsky and Morris (2001) to analyze the value chain of skipjack tuna in Khanh Hoa province. Primary data was collected by interviewing 17 fishermen, 4 intermediaries (nậu vựa), 4 wholesalers, 5 retailers, and 3 tuna processing enterprises in Khanh Hoa from September to November, 2018. The results indicate that fishermen have the lowest income in the chain. Furthermore, a number of bottlenecks in the chain are identified including levels of satisfying requirements of product quality and its safety/ hygiene, traceability, as well as social responsibility in foreign markets. Based on the results, this paper proposes various solutions and some suggestions in order to eliminate these bottlenecks, promoting the skipjack tuna chain in the following years.
