Abstract

Nguyen Van Xuan (1921-2007) is a writer, best remembered for his large
number of works on literary history with unique and new arguments, such as dignifying
unity and diversity; underlining the stage as an inseparable part of literary history; taking an
approach of literary reception; and paying attention to traditions, innovation, and exchange of
national literature. Several arguments are still topical and of interest to scholars. The situation
indicates that Nguyen Van Xuan has made significant imprints and contributions to historical
research on Vietnamese literature.
