Cor people’s national integration into a unified Viet Nam in Tra Bong district, Quang Ngai province

Abstract
In late 15th century, the territory of Dai Viet Kingdom extended to the South
Central of Vietnam. Since then, direct trade relations between the Việt and the Cor in Tra Bong
has developed. Nevertheless, during the next three centuries, Cor villages still maintained
their relative autonomy and depended nominally on dynasties of Dai Viet. Only under the
reign of Emperor Minh Mang (1820) did the state management model govern the Cor people
in Tra Bong. The Cor, however, was not considered the real member of the nation. Only in 1945
did they fully integrate into a unified Viet Nam.
