Abstract

Principles of Western classical dramas were proposed by Aristotle and
subsequently developed through ages. The Aristotelian dramas consist of two basic contents:
Conflicting structure and the law of three unities. Those trendy elements were used by many
Vietnamese playwrights during the period of 1945 - 1975. The Aristotelian drama style not
only strongly influenced the development of spoken dramas but also distorted the traditional
Chèo. The intersection of these two genres has created a new genre known as Chèo (traditional
opera) - dramas.
