Abstract

Communitarianism - one of the influential trends in political philosophy - has significant influence on contemporary Western political and social life. Communitarianism fosters positive understanding of freedom, vigorously criticizes the political model adhering to atomistic views on the supreme status of rights and justice as constructed by J. Rawls and libertarian philosophers, and is committed to addressing possible crises in European democratic political systems. This paper elucidates and applies the political philosophical ideas of communitarianism to the construction of a democratic political civilization in our country today, considering it a critically important action in building Vietnam a modern rule-of-law state.
