Basis and changes in India – Philippines economic relations in the last decade of the 20th century
Abstract
India and Philippines are countries located in the same region of Asia, both of which were colonies of Western colonial powers. After gaining independence, ideological differences and mutual suspicion during the Cold War period deeply influenced the state of India - Philippines relations. By the 1990s, the Cold War ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union, leaving an economic void for India. In that context, with the implementation of the “Look East” Policy (LEP), India has become closer economically to Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines. The following article will delve into the basis as well as the manifestations of changes in India - Philippines economic relations in the last decade of the 20th century.
