INVESTIGATING THE PHENOMENON OF CONFUSION BETWEEN TIME ADVERBS IN CHINESE LANGUAGE AMONGST VIETNAMESE STUDENTS

Abstract

The article analyzes the confusion of Chinese adverbs of time yizhi (一直), conglai (从来) and zong(shi) (总(是)) among Vietnamese students. Based on our self-built Chinese interlanguage corpus for Vietnamese students, we found a total of 120 cases of confusion errors. Among them, the confusion between conglai (从来) and yizhi (一直), the confusion between conglai (从来) and zong(shi) (总(是)) are one-way confusion, and the confusions between yizhi (一直) and zong(shi) (总(是)) is two-way confusion. The main reason for the confusion is that students do not understand the syntactical differences of these adverbs of time.
