EMPLOYMENT AND INCOME OF KHMER PEOPLE IN THE COASTAL OF VINH CHAU TOWN, SOC TRANG PROVINCE

Abstract

This study examines the employment and income issues faced by Khmer individuals residing in the coastal area of Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang province. We analysed survey data from 120 households in Vinh Hai commune and Ward 2, focussing on: 1) income derived from local employment; 2) remittances from individuals employed elsewhere; and 3) income generated from agricultural production. The article analyses and evaluates challenges and offers suggestions for vocational training for Khmer individuals in this region, aiming to enhance adaptation to the contemporary context of industrialisation and modernisation.
