Abstract

In the early decades of the twentieth century, “feminism” or “gender equality” was a debated topic on the Quốc ngữ books and presses, and “feminism” rapidly became the issue of self-awareness of women's rights. Phụ nữ Tân Văn's newspaper in the South was published in that trend, and was a newspaper that made many positive contributions in the struggle for women’s liberation. In the scope of this paper, the authors analyze and clarify the contents calling for feminism in the Phụ nữ tân văn's newspaper in this period such as: women must have careers, non-dependent, initiative in finance; women must be educated and knowledgeable; and mobilizing women to get off the backward constraints of feudalism.
