Abstract

English prepositions are notoriously complicated words due to the complexity in their semantics, functions, and structures. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of English prepositions to figure out why English prepositions cause challenges to Vietnamese learners. Afterwards, this paper also makes an insight into traditional as well as radical methods of teaching English prepositions based on cognitive and allophone linguistic approach. The analyses reveal that teaching English prepositions based on cognitive and allophone linguistic approach are advantageous for learning English as a foreign language.
