The communal house was a place associated with the institution and organization of the old village, It was also the place to worship the god and a meeting place to listen to the king's orders, land transactions, taxes throughout the year. Village communal house was established, governed by own contracts and regulations. From the ordination of 5th year of Tu Duc reign (1852) that gifted to Bon Canh god deity still kept at the communal house of Thu Duc, the article explores the activities, roles, functions, as well as the changes of the communal house of Thu Duc in Ho Chi Minh City from the nineteenth century to the present.
