Abstract

Nguyen Dinh Chieu was a physician, teacher, and patriotic poet with great prestige in the South during his time and had an influence on the following generations. His poetry conveys the traditional moral values of the Vietnamese people, calling for patriotism and fighting against foreign invaders. He always took a decisive and comprehensive stance against the French colonialists. He is considered by many researchers to be the most influential culturalist in the South in early modern period. In November 2021, UNESCO passed a Resolution honoring Nguyen Dinh Chieu as a great poet and cultural writer of mankind. The date July 1st, 2022 was the 200th anniversary of his birthday (July 1st, 1822 - July 1st, 2022).
