Abstract

International registration of trademarks helps businesses protect their products and services in the export market, against acts of unfair competition from competitors. The Madrid System managed by the World Intellectual Property Organization, based on two treaties: The Madrid agreement concerning the international registration of marks and the Madrid Protocol. Enterprise registered for protection under the Madrid protocol are protected more broadly, up to 130 countries that are members of the Madrid Union. This article explores the current status of international trademark registration under the Madrid Protocol for Vietnamese enterprise. Thereby proposing some recommendations to help them to apply for the international trademark registration process in oder to enhance their brand value, competitiveness and towards the success of their global business strategy.
