Abstract

Wolf Totem is the most outstanding novel of contemporary Chinese writer Jiang Rong. This work suggests various topics of research, academia, issues in social life. This research focuses on explaining the wolf symbol’s multi-meaning and some methods for creating its aesthetic effects. From a psychoanalytic standpoint, the author clearly points out the wolf’s totem nature - the totem legend of the Mongol nation, the cultural-historical dialogue between the agrarian civilization and the nomadic civilization; at the same time, the author points out Jiang Rong’s success in enhancing the aesthetic effect of the wolf symbol through techniques such as comparison, personification, and intertextuality.
