AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS UNDER VALUE CHAIN IN THE MEKONG DELTA – CURRENT SITUATION ASSESSMENT AND SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS

Abstract

The agricultural business approach and the value chain concept in agriculture are widely used throughout the world. The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has provided recommendations on agricultural business throughout the value chain. Following these approach, the Mekong Delta region has suitable circumstances for agricultural development. The article investigates the current state of agricultural business along the value chain in the Mekong Delta, and thus proposes some solutions for developing agricultural business along the value chain, such as the need for strong changes in thinking, equipping farmers with awareness and business knowledge, having policies to develop cooperatives, and supporting businesses investing in the agricultural sector.
