Abstract
In order to maintain peace and security in Biển Đông (the East Sea - also known as the South China Sea), Vietnam has made numerous efforts in the process of delineation of maritime boundries between adjacent state over the years. The results of the negotiation process have gradually clarified the scope and legal regime of Vietnam’s maritime zones, which have made favorable conditions for their use, exploitation and management. These contribute to the socio-economic development of Vietnam and enhance friendly cooperation with neighboring countries, reduce the risk of conflict and preserve peace and stability in the shared maritime zone. This article analyzes the maritime delineation process between Vietnam and adjacent countries in Biển Đông based on the international law and through negotiation and agreements among the involved parties. It aims to draw valuable lessons to resolve remaining issues between Vietnam and other countries in the region.
