Characterization of clinical mastitis in dairy cows in industrial farms

Abstract

A total of 2,470 Holstein Friesian cows in lactation stage from four industrial farms in
Lam Dong, Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces was studied. Our study results showed that the prevalence of clinical mastitis was 13.3% with a confidence interval of 95% (12.0 – 14.7%). The distribution of clinical mastitis cases with mild, moderate and severe symptoms was 0.6%, 9.1%, and 3.6%, respectively. The severity of clinical mastitis significantly affected the duration of treatment (P<0.001). Factors on litter, number of inflammatory breasts, inflammatory breast
locations were not significantly affected with the severity of clinical mastitis.
