Study on prevalence of swine cysticercosis in Bac Ninh province

To assess the prevalence of cysticercosis caused by Cysticercus cellulosae in swine herds in
Bac Ninh province, from 2019 to 2020, the study was carried out to investigate 1,600 households
raising pigs at 4 districts in Bac Ninh province (Thuan Thanh, Que Vo, Gia. Binh and Yen Phong
districts). The surveyed results showed that 100% of households raising pigs in the captive
form, 100% of households utilized toilets at good sanitary conditions.
There were 4000 pigs from the small scale slaughter houses (25% of slaughtered pigs in
each district) examed. The age of pigs when testing for cysticercosis was suitable for slaughter,
most of them reached the age from 5 to 7 months old. The slaughtered pigs were mainly hybrid
pigs. There were 94.27% of pigs raised in Bac Ninh province, only 5.73% of pigs were brought
from other provinces to Bac Ninh for slaughter. There was only one pig found to be infected
with cysticercosis (0.025%), which was raised in Son Dong district, Bac Giang province. 100%
of pigs for slaughter raising in Bac Ninh province were not infected with Cysticercus cellulosae
