Abstract

Direct interview was conducted in 120 small-scale pig farms which were located in the ASF
outbreak areas of 4 provinces, city including Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Noi. The
surveyed results showed that common chemicals used in these pig farms were consistent with the
recommendations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. All households (100%)
did not meet the National Technical Regulation (NTR - QCVN) on water quality management
in livestock. Most of the farms (75.83%) did not meet NTR on treatment for redundant feed.
The combination of spraying disinfectants and dispersing calcium hydroxide was utilized by all
the surveyed farms 100% households met NTR on sterilization for transport vehicles and labor
protection equipments. 10.83% of the surveyed households did not meet NTR on disinfection
for people who directly involved in livestock production. The surveyed results also showed
that there were many shortcomings in the disinfection and sterilization work in the small-scale
livestock households, this is a great risk factor for the wide spread of ASFV.
