Promote quality standard application in production to meet food safety and traceability requirements for Vietnamese agricultural products

Abstract

Vietnam’s agriculture has reached many important achievements; however, the development of the industry is facing several problems and limitations. The production scale of small farms has mainly resulted in low and uneven quality of agri-products. Hence, it leads to the situation that Vietnamese agri-products do not respond well to the most concerning requirements of the domestic and export markets regarding food safety and traceability. Based on desk research of literature on the situation of production and consumption of agri-products in Vietnam recently, the article points out that relevant actors have not paid adequate attention to the application of quality standards in production to ensure food safety and traceability. To promote the application of quality standard production, it is necessary to identify the motivations and to gather actions of relevant entities, including farmers, consumers, and authorities. Solutions to promote the application of quality standard production include strengthening propaganda, training, supporting digital transformation, and perfecting the monitoring mechanism for all stakeholders in agri business in Vietnam.
