Overview the aquaculture insurance in China and some proposed policies for developing aquaculture insurance in Vietnam.

Abstract

Aquaculture insurance plays an important role in the stable and sustainable development of the aquaculture sector. Since 2012 until now, the Chinese government has implemented the pilot program of aquaculture insurance with many products and insurance models, thereby forming an insurance market and attracting a large number of the participant on both the supply and demand sides. In particular, weather index-based insurance is the method applied to many aquaculture subjects in China and has achieved good results. Researching and learning from experiences in implementing aquaculture insurance in China is the basis for researchers and policy makers to find and propose solutions to develop the aquaculture insurance market in Viet Nam.
