Abstract

Worldwide studies show that hazard perception training programs help improve the hazard perception capacity and reduce road crashes and fatalities. In Vietnam, however, the existing rider training and licensing program do not include such skills. Therefore, the Vietnamese-German Transport Research Centre conducted a research project on a hazard perception training program for novice motorcycle riders in Vietnam. As part of the project, this study component aims to (1) evaluate the effect of the proposed hazard perception training program for young novice motorcycle riders; (2) propose recommendations for improving motorcycle rider training and testing programs in the future. The assessment applies the pre-test and post-test control design to compare the effects between a trained group and a control group. It reveals that the proposed program could enhance the hazard perception capacity and safety for novice riders and recommend including the hazard perception training into the existing motorcycle rider training program.
