The leadership capacity of a project manager
Keywords:
Abstract
The study evaluates the leadership capacity of project managers through three key factors: emotional quotient (EQ), moral quotient (MQ), and intelligence quotient (IQ). As leadership becomes increasingly crucial to project success, it has garnered significant attention from organisations and researchers. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 15 project managers in the construction industry. The findings reveal that IQ enhances analytical skills and strategic decision-making, MQ supports planning and organisation, and EQ is vital for
effective communication, motivation, and conflict resolution. However, many managers struggle to balance these three elements, particularly EQ, when under high pressure. Those with strong EQ tend to foster a positive work environment and improve overall project outcomes by enhancing teamwork and collaboration. The study suggests targeted training programs in soft skills, strategic thinking, and emotional management. These initiatives aim to help businesses better understand leadership roles and support the development of project managers, particularly in Hanoi, to enhance overall project efficiency and long-term success.
