LINKING SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, CREATING LIVELIHOODS, CONTRIBUTING TO HUNGER ERADICATION AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION IN ETHNIC MINORITY AND MOUNTAINOUS AREAS TODAY

Abstract

Ethnic minorities and mountainous areas are considered to be strategically important areas in terms of politics, socio-economy, security and defense of the whole country. It is home to many ethnic
minorities, with a rich and unique culture. Over the past years, our Party and State have promulgated many
guidelines and policies prioritizing socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous
areas, so that the material and spiritual life of the ethnic people of Vietnam have had many changes,
gradually improved; especially in the years of renovation, ethnic minorities have united, attached, and
jointly developed socio-economy, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, livelihood creation, step by
step creating positive changes in all aspects of social life. As a result, the socio-economic development
in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has achieved important results. However, up to now, the socioeconomic development of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas is still slow compared to other regions
in the whole country, the lives of ethnic minorities are still difficult. One of the basic reasons is “Lack of
capital for development investment”, which is a major obstacle to the economic development of ethnic
minorities and mountainous areas. From the above issues, properly recognizing the challenging issues
posed before the development requirements of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in order to find
solutions for development is a necessary process to be further interested and researched.
