Abstract

Persuasion can be regarded as one of the most fundamental goals of linguistic communication, governed by several major pragmatic theories such as argumentation, implicature, and conversational principles such as the cooperative principle, politeness and relevance theory. This paper aims to clarify the close interrelationship between these theoretical frameworks and persuasion, offering an overview of current research on persuasion from a pragmatic perspective, with a focus on persuasive messages and communicative strategies.  Accordingly, the paper also reveals existing research gaps, particularly within Vietnamese linguistics.
