X - bar Theory....................................

Abstract

This paper introduces the “X -  bar”  notation (the terminology introduced in Chomsky’s paper in 1970 on  Remarks on Nominalisation  ). The subsequent extensions of this notation become the theory called “X - bar syntax”, a sub-theoryin the framework of the  Principles and Parameters. The  X  -  bar constituent structure is employed for the description of syntactic structures at all levels
