Abstract
This paper investigates factors influencing the education of independent living skills for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in special education settings in Hanoi. The sample comprised 60 teachers and 33 parents. Data were collected using a 5-point influence scale (1–5) and analyzed with descriptive statistics. Findings indicate a high level of agreement between the two groups regarding the importance of the factors (all mean scores exceeded 4.0). Among them, learner-internal barriers-especially
limitations in attention and initiative - were ranked highest by teachers; parents emphasized encouraging practice at home and family - school collaboration. While the environment and facilities were considered important, they were ranked after learner-related factors and collaboration mechanisms. Based on these results, the paper proposes feasible measures for special education contexts: social stories, video modeling, practice in real-life situations, the use of educational technology and visual supports, and structured collaboration among schools, teachers, and families. These measures are organized as behavioral sequences with criteria for monitoring baseline, level of support, safety, stability, and generalization.
