SOME ISSUES OF CONCERN FOR URBAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN HANOI

Abstract

     The Resolution of the 17th Hanoi City Party Congress (2020-2025) outlines the direction of “Enhancing the quality and effectiveness of urban embellishment, development, and modernization in line with sustainable urban economic development”. To implement these objectives, the Hanoi City Party Committee has issued 10 Working Programs for the 17th City Party Committee’s term from 2020 to 2025, following the Action Program to execute the Resolution of the City Party Congress.
      One of these programs is Program 03-CTr/TU, which focuses on “Urban beautification, urban development, and urban economy for the period 2021-2025”. The notion of “urban economy” is multifaceted and complex, especially for a developing city like Hanoi. There are not many documents or specific legal documents that provide a comprehensive explanation of this topic.

This article aims to offer some initial insights into the “urban economy” issue as it stands in the world and Vietnam today. It also proposes some aspects of urban economic development in Hanoi for further research, consultation, and evaluation.
