This paper provides a brief introduction to competency-based education. The competency-based language teaching (CBLT) focuses on competences and outputs. In competence-based language education, teachers are objects rather than subjects in the teaching process. Students must demonstrate that they can use the language to accomplish tasks in the real world. Students must become active learners, and teachers are taking on new roles as facilitators. Materials must be authentic and related to the task. Assessment should focus more on the provision of information about student progress than on the one of a grade for an assignment.
