Current situation and solutions to promote the tourism potential of Phu Yen province in the direction of sustainable development

Abstract

Phu Yen, a coastal province in central Vietnam, with a coastline of nearly 200 km, is famous for its beautiful and diverse natural landscapes, possessing many famous landscapes and rich historical and cultural relics. Revenue from accommodation, catering, and travel services as of January 2024 is estimated at 681.6 billion VND. Although Phu Yen has great potential for sustainable tourism development, in recent years, tourism in Phu Yen province has not developed commensurate with its available potential. Within the framework of this article, we focus on presenting a concept of sustainable tourism development of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and some international scholars, thereby generalizing the definition of sustainable tourism development. At the same time, summarize the formation and development process of Phu Yen province. Evaluate the potentials and achievements in developing tourism in Phu Yen province towards sustainable development. From there, a number of groups of solutions are proposed, focusing on and emphasizing the following solutions: Preserving and developing ecotourism; Developing community tourism; Building community education programs; Creating cultural tourism programs; Creating a feedback and evaluation system. These are key groups of solutions to promote tourism in Phu Yen province in the coming time.
